Soon after finalising the future of Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona have wasted no time trying to secure a contract for Eric Garcia.
The former Man City starlet has been one of the most improved players at Barcelona under the leadership of Hansi Flick.
This season, in particular, Garcia has emerged as a reliable option in defence, with Flick employing him as a right-back, a centre-back and even as a defensive midfielder.
Barcelona to sign Garcia deal next week
Recent reports have already indicated that Barcelona are in advanced talks to renew the contract of Garcia, which expires at the end of the season.
Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued a fresh update on the future of Garcia, suggesting that the new deal, which will run for five years, will be signed as soon as next week.

This could be a major boost for Barcelona fans who were getting anxious about the delay in Garcia’s future.
The anxiety crept in even more after the defender was linked with a move to PSG. But Barcelona never had any plans to let him leave.
In fact, the Catalans see Garcia as a future captain and want to keep hold of his services for the foreseeable future.
Keeping that in mind, the new deal is likely to result in a salary hike as well, given that Garcia was one of the lowest-paid players in the team.
The new deal, therefore, will give the player a lot of confidence as well as the Spaniard looks to establish himself as a potential first-team regular for the team.
With Barcelona still failing to replace Inigo Martinez and Jules Kounde struggling with form, one would assume Garcia will play an important role for Barcelona, at least for the remainder of this campaign.
