Chelsea had one of Cole Palmer’s toughest opponents ever, but they sold him for just £3m

Chelsea fans are so close to seeing the return of Cole Palmer to their side after his groin injury has kept him out of action since September.

Palmer has started just two games for Chelsea in the Premier League this season, and the Blues have clearly been missing their best attacker in action.

Despite his absence, they remain just six points off of league leaders Arsenal, and have a chance to put the pressure on when they face Leeds United on Wednesday night.

There are a plethora of choices available for Enzo Maresca when it comes to his attackers, with there being plenty of turnover in players in those positions in recent years.

Cole Palmer previously named Callum Hudson-Odoi as one of his toughest opponents

One of those who was moved on was Callum Hudson-Odoi, who after being one of the more promising players to come through the academy left the club for just £3m.

A lot was expected of the Cobham graduate in the first team, especially after how much he had impressed at academy levels.

Palmer knows this better than anyone. He told Rising Ballers back in 2020 that Hudson-Odoi was one of the most talented players he had faced, alongside Ansu Fati and Brian Brobbey.

There is no bad blood between Chelsea and Hudson-Odoi, and he was given a chance to reclaim his place in the Blues side when he went on loan to Bayer Leverkusen.

Chelsea’s wingers finally starting to prosper

The Blues have had a wide variety of options out wide since Hudson-Odoi departed back in 2023.

Now though, they are finally seeing their players provide regular goal contributions. Estevao Willian and Pedro Neto are having a great battle for the starting spot on the right of attack.

While Jamie Gittens is still waiting to find his feet at Stamford Bridge, Alejandro Garnacho is quietly going about his business after the unpopular decision to bring him to the club over the summer.

The former Manchester United man started against Barcelona, and has found the net in both the Premier League and Champions League already this season.
