Liverpool underwent a significant reshaping during the summer 2025 transfer window following their Premier League title triumph under Arne Slot.

The Reds cashed in on several players, offloading Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich for £60 million, Darwin Núñez to Al-Hilal for £46 million while also selling Ben Doak to Bournemouth and Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.

Not all of those who departed have thrived, however. Harvey Elliott joined Aston Villa on deadline day in a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy for £35 million, triggered after 10 appearances.

It has been nothing short of a nightmare. The 22-year-old has managed just five appearances and one Premier League start, totalling a mere 96 minutes in the league. He has been absent from Villa’s last seven matchday squads.

One player who has bucked the trend is Tyler Morton.

The 22-year-old left Liverpool for Lyon in August after frank conversations with Slot about his limited game time.

It has proven to be an inspired decision.

Morton has become a cornerstone of Lyon’s midfield, impressing with a 91% pass success rate and racking up 17 appearances across all competitions.

His form has not gone unnoticed.

According to TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest are monitoring Morton as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson, whom Manchester United have made their number one midfield target.

Forest are among several Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on the Englishman, alongside Crystal Palace.

Lyon are not actively looking to sell, but their well-documented financial struggles could make them receptive to doubling their money.

Liverpool, meanwhile, retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause, meaning they will have some vested interest should Morton move on.

The Reds academy was sold to Lyon for a fee of up to €15 million, which includes a €10 million upfront fee and an additional €5 million.
