Liverpool do no intend to recall Harvey Elliott from his loan with Aston Villa.
That’s according to The Athletic, who say the Reds have ‘no plans’ to call time on a loan move that has not worked for the England Under-21 star.
Fulham youth product Elliott was a deadline day signing for Villa, who had previously been linked with West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, arriving on a deal with an obligation to buy.
The agreement means Villa will have to pay Liverpool somewhere in the region of £30-35million if the 22-year-old makes ten appearances.
So far he has made six but has not even made the match-day squad for the four most recent games for which he has been eligible. Apart from four minutes off the bench against Feyenoord, he has been an unused substitute in Villa’s Europa League campaign.
Having played for Liverpool and Villa this season, registration rules mean Elliott can’t play for a third team in the same season. That means he either has to bide his time at Villa Park or return to Anfield. The Athletic’s claim suggests that the latter won’t happen.
Elliott went to Liverpool in 2019 and has made 149 appearances for the club and earned a Premier League winner’s medal last season.
