Mikel Arteta will need to produce his best starting XI against a Brentford side who have impressed under Keith Andrews this season. The Bees are currently 12th in the Premier league table, having won two of their last three games in the league.

Riccardo Calafiori is expected to start on Wednesday night at left-back, which will again leave Myles Lewis-Skelly on the bench. The 18-year-old has been linked with a January move away in search of more game time to ensure he gets into Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.

Ex-Arsenal star Silvestre predicts Lewis-Skelly will stay

Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has predicted that Arsenal will keep hold of the left-back, despite his lack of game time. Silvestre was speaking to Esports Insider: “I don’t see Myles Lewis-Skelly going anywhere between now and the end of the season.

“While Mikel Arteta might currently favour Riccardo Calafiori as the starting left-back, he’s been injured before and Arsenal can’t afford to be short in any position, given the Premier League title is on the line.

“Arsenal are in all four competitions; they’ll need to utilise every player at their disposal. When the games start coming thick and fast, their squad depth will be tested. We know Arsenal have a strong bench and squad now, but a lot of those players will have national duty throughout the season too, so it’s only a matter of time before they’ll need to rotate players.”

Lewis-Skelly has made nine Premier league appearances so far this season, with the majority of those coming off the bench. Calafiori has been the nailed on first-choice at left-back due to his incredible performances so far this season.
