Federico Chiesa has been the subject of growing interest ahead of the January transfer window.
The Italian winger has looked bright in many of his appearances this season, but most of them have come from the bench, even as several of Liverpool’s attacking players have struggled for form.
With Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo among those enduring inconsistent spells, Arne Slot could hand Chiesa a run of starts.
His only starts have come in the League Cup, from which Liverpool were eliminated in October, while all of his Premier League and European appearances have been as a substitute.
Despite his limited minutes, Chiesa has still produced two goals and three assists.
According to SiamoLaRoma, AS Roma have explored the possibility of signing Chiesa, but the player’s priority for now is to remain at Liverpool.
Roma sporting director Frederic Massara is said to have made initial enquiries to understand the winger’s intentions and Liverpool’s demands.
Chiesa, who has been short on playing time in recent weeks, prefers to stay at Anfield at this stage.
However, the situation remains fluid.
The report stresses that things “could change” between now and the January window.
Having dropped out of the Italian national team’s immediate plans, with the World Cup playoffs approaching in March, Chiesa may yet decide to seek a club where he can play more regularly.
He has not represented Italy since last summer’s European Championship, with the beginning of his international absence coinciding with his move to Liverpool.
Italy head coach Gennaro Gattuso has attempted to include Chiesa in recent squads, but the winger has declined the call-ups.
Gattuso recently said: “You always ask the same questions.
“I call Chiesa. I call him before every international break.
“The problem isn’t Gattuso or his coaching staff. It’s his (Chiesa’s) problem.
“Not ours. You know that very well. You always ask me the same questions, and I keep giving you the same answer.”
