Everton have now taken a stance around making a ‘big money bid’ for Richarlison in January

Everton fans will fondly remember Richarlison’s four-year stint at the club, with the attacker playing a key part in both their resurgence under Carlo Ancelotti and their failures under Rafa Benitez.

Everton signed Richarlison from Watford in 2018 and he quickly became the Toffees’ key player, with his committed performances, ability to come up with vital moments when needed and his love for the club making him a firm fan favourite.

Although he’s currently plying his trade for Tottenham Hotspur, the forward maintains a good rapport with the Everton support, as seen this season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and last year at Goodison Park.

That has seen him linked with a move to join up with David Moyes’ squad – but journalist Dean Jones has poured cold water over any move in the January transfer window.

Everton’s January move for Richarlison has been distanced

Speaking on the Ranks FC podcast, transfer specialist Dean Jones believes that although Everton could be in the race to sign the Brazil international, a January move won’t happen with Everton unlikely to stump up the cash for his signature.

Jones said: “I still think he’s eager to prove himself again at Tottenham.

“Obviously linked with Everton and stuff like that, but Everton aren’t going to put in a big money bid for Richarlison in January.

“So my hunch is that Richarlison leaves at the end of the season, but it will definitely be a narrative that crops up.”

Everton fans would likely welcome one of their former stars of the past few years back to Merseyside with open arms – but it appears that there are various hoops to jump through if they are to bring him back.

Richarlison was the last Everton player to offer consistent goals in the Premier League

Everton have won six of their 14 games in the Premier League this season, registering 21 points from 14 games in a rip-roaring start for David Moyes.

However, goals have evidently been short this season for the Toffees in their forward ranks.

Beto has just one Premier League goal to his name this season, while French striker Thierno Barry has only hit one shot on target in little over 10 hours of Premier League football – seeing him criticised by fans after the performance against Bournemouth.

In fact, Richarlison was the last Everton player to hit double figures in the Premier League in a single season, coming in the 2021-22 campaign.

Everton had managed that for 10 seasons in a row from the 2012-13 campaign through to the 2021-22 season, but they haven’t done so since – and the Brazilian would go a long way to changing that.
