Andy Robertson returns for Milos Kerkez for the visit of Sunderland. But Mohamed Salah once more begins as a Liverpool substitute.

The Premier League champions are aiming to put back-to-back victories together for the first time since September when they host the high-flying Black Cats and Scotland captain Robertson is the only change from Sunday's 2-0 win at West Ham United.

That means Salah once more starts on the bench as Slot keeps Alexander Isak up top after the Sweden striker scored his first league goal at the weekend after nearly three months as a Liverpool player.

Slot revealed in his Tuesday press conference that £125m Isak was suffering with some cramp toward the end of his run-out at West Ham but he is cleared for a second successive start in the Premier League tonight with Hugo Ekitike one of the subs.

Salah is set to join up with his Egypt colleagues for the Africa Cup of Nations from December 15, which means the visit of Brighton two days earlier will be the forward's last game before the tournament, which kicks off in Morocco shortly before Christmas.

Florian Wirtz, who shone at the London Stadium, is expected to be stationed as the most advanced of the midfielders with Dominik Szoboszlai operating off the right ahead of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.

Joe Gomez makes back-to-back starts for the first time in 12 months as he begins on the right side of the back four alongside Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Robertson, who appears in a starting line-up for the first time since the 3-0 loss to Manchester City a month ago.

Liverpool: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak. Subs: Mamardashvili, Endo, Jones, Kerkez, Ekitike, Chiesa, Salah, Ngumoha, Nyoni.

Sunderland: Roefs, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo, Xhaka, Sadiki, Hume, Le Fee, Talbi, Brobbey. Subs: Patterson, Neil, Geertruida, Mayenda, O'Nien, Mundle, Isidor, Adingra, Traore.
