Heat vs. Mavericks: The matchup
The Heat roll into American Airlines Center listed as 4.5-point betting favorites and the top record (14-7) in the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division, ahead of the Orlando Magic (13-8) and Atlanta Hawks (13-9). Miami is 7-1 over its past eight games behind an offense averaging 124.3 points per game, which is second only to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets (124.6 ppg) among the NBA’s top scoring teams. The Heat have crossed over the 140-point plateau on five occasions this season, including a Monday win over the Los Angeles Clippers (140-123) where four of five starters scored at least 20 points, topped by Norman Powell’s 30.

The Mavericks are showing signs of life with big man Anthony Davis back in the lineup, falling on the road to the LA Lakers in his return from a calif injury last Friday before winning back-to-back games over the LA Clippers (114-110) and Denver Nuggets (131-121). Davis sat out the Saturday contest against the Clippers, but went for 32 points and 13 rebounds as the Mavs beat the Nuggets in Denver on Monday night. The 32-year-old brings another dimension to a frontcourt headlined by rookie No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg and veterans P.J. Washington and Naji Marshall, who are all averaging double-figure points.
