Newcastle United 2 Spurs 2 - match review
Erling Haaland has one Alan Shearer record in the bank - he is now gunning for another that was last broken in 1995.
It is swiftly becoming a case of when - not if - Erling Haaland will break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record.
Despite 43 per cent of Shearer’s strikes coming in Blackburn Rovers colours, the feat has always been proudly espoused by those from a Newcastle United persuasion. He scored the last of his 260 goals from the penalty spot against Sunderland in April 2006.
This also proved to be Shearer’s final professional game - with his celebration that day now cast in bronze outside of St James’ Park. However, the all-time record he has held for 30 years is now seriously under threat.
Erling Haaland breaks first Alan Shearer record
After a two-game goal drought, Haaland got back on the scoresheet in Manchester City’s thrilling 5-4 win over Fulham. With two assists also in the bank, the Norwegian superstar finally became the fastest player to 100 Premier League goals.
He achieved the record 13 games faster than Shearer managed while playing for Blackburn. Now the focus shifts to whether Haaland will attack the all-time record that the Toon icon has owned since 1995.
When could Erling Haaland break Alan Shearer’s all-time record?
There are two caveats to predicting Haaland’s goalscoring return. The 25-year-old has stayed relatively injury-free since joining City - missing just 14 top-flight games.
Another depends on his long-term commitment at the Etihad. He signed a whopping nine-year contract in January, but as has been seen by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane, a move to the continent could keep Shearer top of the list.
Providing Haaland stays at Man City and keeps the same level of goalscoring and fitness, he would break Shearer’s record in September 2030 - two months after turning 30. If Haaland matches Shearer’s 441 appearances and, if he continues the same scoring rate, the City talisman will finish his career on 397 goals.

Erling Haaland comments on Alan Shearer record
Haaland was asked about the possibility of gunning for Shearer’s all-time tally after Man City beat Fulham on Tuesday. He told Sky Sports: "I know about it. But I don't think too much about it. I don't want to say the words, but when you're a striker for Man City you should be delivering great numbers. That's my job. People should criticise me if I don't. That's normally what people do. In the end, I should deliver."
