Man United have been linked to signing a Bundesliga breakout star who has been compared to Florian Wirtz.

Amorim will have seen Liverpool splash the cash in the summer, but to no avail, as Arne Slot’s side have really struggled to replicate their form from last season. Perhaps the biggest signing the Reds made was Florian Wirtz, who was hyped to become one of the world’s best attackers.

Liverpool spent £116m on Wirtz, and he has struggled so far, but there is optimism amongst Liverpool fans that the German will come good. Fresh reports, however, suggest that United have the chance to sign a superstar who could end up surpassing Wirtz in the years to come.

Man United keen on German wonderkid

The Bundesliga is beginning to get excited about the prospect of Florian Wirtz 2.0, as FC Koln star Said El Mala has become one of the most exciting young midfielders in world football. The 19-year-old came through the FC Koln academy, much like Wirtz, and has already shown that he can be a world-class attacker at just 19.

This season, El Mala has made 14 appearances for FC Koln, scoring five goals and providing three assists. He is versatile, like Wirtz, as he can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, making him ideal for Man United’s number 10 roles that Amorim likes to play.

According to talkSPORT, Man United are admirers of the 19-year-old, and they are reportedly the front-runners to sign him out of the interested Premier League clubs. It was reported that Southampton and Brighton wanted to sign him last season, but no deal ever materialised.

Man United named as the ‘most sensible’ option for El Mala

Speaking to talkSPORT, European Football expert Andy Brassell said that Man United makes the most sense for the 19-year-old as his next club. He said: “If you're looking at where he would fit logically, United is the most sensible one out of those, I think.

"Liverpool are obviously in a state of flux at the moment, and you wonder how much football he would actually play there. [Man] City have wide players absolutely to die for at the moment. So you wonder how much he would play there. United is maybe the obvious one.”

Brassell also added that FC Koln views El Mala as a future superstar, and they are very much keen to build their team around the talented German. He said: “El Mala is the one that makes Koln think, 'OK, this is a guy who's going to be massive'. And at least for the moment, he's ours."
