Mohamed Salah transfer verdict given as former Liverpool players disagree on future

Jamie Redknapp and Daniel Sturridge are not on the same page when it comes to Mohamed Salah's future after the Liverpool talisman was benched for the second time in a week against Sunderland.

The Egyptian was an unused substitute in the win over West Ham on Sunday and was not recalled for the visit of Sunderland to Anfield. He was introduced at half time in place of Cody Gakpo but again flattered to deceive with his performance.

Arne Slot admitted at the weekend that Salah was 'not happy' with his decision to drop him to the bench, with the 33-year-old having scored just five times so far this season for the Reds.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the draw with Sunderland, ex-Reds captain Redknapp suggested the end could be nigh for Salah in a Liverpool shirt.

"It does feel like something has to give. There is no way that Mohamed Salah is going to be content with being a bit-part player in this team," he said.

"Whether it is in the summer or January, I think he has earned the right to move on if things don't go his way. I can only see that outcome.

"I feel like he needs that confidence and love from a manager. It feels like it could come to a head at some point. If you are going to Leeds, thinking you need a goal and want to play the Liverpool style, then Salah has to start.

Salah's former teammate Sturridge isn't as convinced though and believes there is every chance that the Egyptian can resurrect his season for the champions.

Jamie Redknapp has predicted Mohamed Salah's time at Liverpool could be coming to an end

Asked if he could move on in January, the former England striker said: "I would like to think not. But you never know. He is known for his stats and numbers and he hasn't delivered those this season but nobody has at Liverpool.

"Every player that is driven by goals and assists wants to be the reason why the team wins. He has done that since he joined the club and this is the first year we can really question him.

"It hurts me to see him unhappy. He is used to being the main man and there comes a time in every player's career where the manager, owner and player have a decision to make.

"I don't think we are at that stage yet. The club and Salah can turn it around in terms of performances. But I don't want to see this notion that Salah is being pushed away.

"I am not the manager but if you are going to leave Salah out again, then change the formation, have a look at Isak and Ekitike up top with Wirtz in behind.

"We know what Salah can do. He hasn't been at his level this season and he knows that. But he also knows he is a top player, and he will be ready to work his socks off to get back to that.
