Liverpool urged to reconsider‘realistic and relatively inexpensive’transfer option

Liverpool should re-consider their stance on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck as he’d be a ‘realistic and relatively inexpensive’ option for them.

That’s according to RAN. They cover the Borussia Dortmund defender today and present a list of potential suitors for him.

Schlotterbeck’s future at Dortmund is currently open, as his current deal expires in June 2027. Dortmund are trying to get him signed to a new deal but have so far been unsuccessful in that.

They face the prospect of being forced to sell him on the cheap next summer, rather than losing him on a free in 2027.

Several clubs have already been linked with a move for him. Liverpool have regularly been named among them. They’re short at centre-back already, but also risk losing Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires. The Frenchman is yet to commit to a new deal at Anfield.

Schlotterbeck has long been named as a player on Liverpool’s list as a result. However, a recent report in Germany suggested that they had stepped back for now. RAN believe they should reconsider that.

According to them, Schlotterbeck would be someone who could help them to strengthen at centre-back, regardless of whether Konate stays or goes.

Furthermore, the German defender is also a ‘realistic’ target. And he’s one that would be a ‘relatively inexpensive option’ given his contract status. That’s certainly compared to other names in contention.

They do concede that if Marc Guehi moves to Anfield, he won’t be needed. But until that point, the German defender is a name that should still be under consideration.
