Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been involved in the Blues’ pursuit of Club Brugge centre-back Joel Ordonez, according to reports.
The 21-year-old is a fellow Ecuadorian international and TEAMtalk claim that Caicedo has been asked for his thoughts on the player.
Based on the fact that Enzo Maresca’s side have been keeping in touch with Ordonez’s entourage in recent months, it appears Caicedo has given a positive recommendation.
It now looks as though a move could be made for the defender when the transfer window reopens in January.
Chelsea will have competition
TEAMtalk report that Liverpool are the biggest rivals for Ordonez’s signature, having also recently contacted the player’s entourage.

Other teams, including Manchester City and Tottenham, have scouted the Ecuadorian, but it does appear as if it could be a two-way fight for his services in the New Year.
In terms of how much Ordonez will cost, reports suggest that Club Brugge will demand a fee in the region of €40m (£35m). The centre-half has three and a half years remaining on his contract so the Belgian club are under no pressure to sell.
Ordonez could strengthen Maresca’s options at the back
Fans were livid after Tosin Adarabioyo’s howler contributed to the 3-1 defeat to Leeds on Wednesday night. The lack of depth in the centre of defence has undoubtedly played a role in the club’s inconsistent form this season.
Trevoh Chalobah is the only one who has played to a good standard week in, week out, while form and fitness have troubled the likes of Tosin, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
Ordonez is not exactly an experienced player, so some may argue that he won’t necessarily strengthen the Blues’ backline, but it seems as if he has been identified as a target for January.
