Everton sold one star in the summer months in a squad reshuffle under David Moyes – and it’s proving time and time again to be the correct decision from the Toffees.
Everton had a huge summer transfer window by bringing in Jack Grealish from Manchester City, whilst Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall arrived from Chelsea and the impressive capture of Tyler Dibling from Southampton was announced.
There wasn’t much in terms of outgoings, with Neal Maupay’s eventual exit to Marseille finally being confirmed as David Moyes looked to keep the core of his squad together.
But one star that the Scot sent on his way was Youssef Chermiti, with the Portuguese talent joining Rangers under Kevin Thelwell’s leadership – and it’s fair to say the move hasn’t worked out with manager Danny Rohl making hints at more signings to replace underperforming stars.

Rangers boss Danny Rohl has hinted that Youssef Chermiti may face fight for first-team minutes
Youssef Chermiti joined Rangers on transfer deadline day in a £10million move under Russell Martin whilst Kevin Thelwell was sporting director in Glasgow, despite rarely spending time in Everton’s first-team, by scoring no goals in 24 games for the Toffees.
He’s hardly hit the ground running at Rangers either, scoring just one goal in 15 games for the club, seeing them hit poor run of form currently nine points from the top of the league and in real danger of missing out on a Champions League spot.
Rangers have only won five Scottish Premiership games all season, which has turned around somewhat under manager Danny Rohl. And the German has admitted that stars such as Chermiti could struggle to play beyond January once he brings his own players in.
Rohl said: “I never lose patience with players but the opportunities will be fewer. Because yeah, it’s about form. Some players use it, some players can’t use it.

“The first part is right (the squad needs help in January).
“You look at what opportunities you have and you take the next one. It’s football, it’s about competition.
“In some positions, we have competition and in others there’s less. So you have to step up, that’s what I demand and expect from my players.
“We’re seeing too many ups and downs. Some players feel: ‘OK, I’ve made the step’. Then in the next game they take a step back.
“We are not consistently at the highest point again and again. This is my job.”
Chermiti’s one goal in just 15 games makes him a real frontrunner for Rohl’s exodus and it has proven to be a Kevin Thelwell failure.
Kevin Thelwell has failed twice with Youssef Chermiti
The sporting director was in the hotseat at Goodison Park when he signed Youssef Chermiti, and although Chermiti came in alongside Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as an understudy, game time was massively limited for the youngster.
Thelwell evidently sees something in Chermiti, paying £8million to take him to Ibrox, but that is a move that hasn’t gone down well with Rangers fans due to his lack of goalscoring ability.

The Gers have had some incredible strikers down the years, including former Everton duo Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith – but they are lacking real firepower at present and Chermiti is part of the problem.
It seemed odd to spend so much on an unproven talent in the first place at Everton, and the same has rung true again.
However, on a positive note, it’s proven to be the perfect sale for David Moyes.
