Real Madrid issue Trent Alexander-Arnold statement as woe since Liverpool exit continues

Real Madrid have announced that Trent Alexander-Arnold has sustained a muscular injury during their midweek victory over Athletic Club. This is yet another blow for the England international, who has been plagued by injuries since his transfer from Liverpool. "Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the rectus anterior quadriceps in his left leg. His progress will be monitored," read a statement from the club.

Spanish reports, following Real Madrid's announcement, estimate that the England defender could be out of action for around two months due to this issue. This injury means that Alexander-Arnold will miss the chance to return to England next week when Real Madrid face off against Manchester City in an eagerly anticipated Champions League match.

He will also be absent for the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atletico Madrid. This latest injury is another setback for the 27-year-old since his move from Anfield to the Bernabeu in the summer.

The gifted right-back has found it difficult to secure a spot in Xabi Alonso's preferred starting line-up, partly due to a hamstring problem which saw him sidelined for seven matches earlier in the season.

His slow start has been met with criticism in some quarters, with the Spanish press once again lambasting Alexander-Arnold following Real's 3-0 triumph over Bilbao - despite him providing a superb assist during the match.

The low point of Alexander-Arnold's time in Madrid came when he returned to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Champions League only to lose 1-0. The defender came off the bench to play the final nine minutes against the struggling Premier League champions.
