What is Arsenal's longest unbeaten run?

When you think about our longest unbeaten runs, many will look at the Invincibles of 2003/04.

However, when looking at staying undefeated across all competitions, it is not the vintage side of 03/04 that tops the charts for our longest unbeaten run.

Having gone unbeaten in 18 matches across all competitions under Mikel Arteta between August and December 2025, we've taken a look at some of our longest stretches without tasting defeat across every tournament we play in!

Our current run of 18 games matches a run in the 2001/2002 season for the 11th-longest unbeaten run in our history. The runs ranked from 11th to 5th are shown in the table below:

Date Final Game Games Unbeaten

9th March 2002 Newcastle United 1-1 Arsenal 18

3rd December 2025 Arsenal 2-0 Brentford 18

27th November 2016 Arsenal 3-1 Bournemouth 19

24th November 1990 Queens Park Rangers 1-3 Arsenal 20

11th March 2003 Arsenal 1-1 Roma 20

18th January 2004 Aston Villa 0-2 Arsenal 20

11th April 1999 Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal 21

20th October 2004 Panathinaikos 2-2 Arsenal 21

On four occasions in our history, we've managed to go more than 21 games unbeaten, but these runs might not fall in the seasons you'd expect them to.

1986/1987 - 22 matches

1986/1987 saw the beginning of a new era at Arsenal, as George Graham was named manager and had an immediate impact, guiding us to what was, at the time, the longest unbeaten run in our history (across all competitions).

The run began with an impressive 1-0 victory at Goodison Park over Everton, who went on to win the league title, and lasted all the way through October, November and December.

We ended the run on a high, beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Highbury in the quarter-final of the League Cup, a competition we went on to win in April, beating Liverpool 2-1 in the final at Wembley through a brace, including an 83rd-minute winner, from Charlie Nicholas.

2018/2019 - 22 matches

In a remarkable coincidence, another new manager guided us to a 22 match unbeaten run in their first season in charge, as Unai Emery, having lost his first two matches in charge, didn't taste defeat again until December.

The run began with Emery's first win in charge, a 3-1 victory over West Ham at Emirates Stadium. So long was the run that it included all six of our Europa League group stage matches, in which we conceded just two goals across five wins and a draw.

Highlights from the run included Lucas Torreira's 83rd-minute bicycle-kick winner against Huddersfield and an exhilarating 4-2 win over Tottenham in the north London derby.

While it may not have been known at the time, this run was also significant as it featured the debuts of both Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe, who would go on to become first-team stars under Mikel Arteta.

2001/2002, 2002/2003 - 24 matches

Not only did our 2001/2002 season end in a Premier League and FA Cup double, but it also featured the first 11 games of a 24-match unbeaten run.

In fact, our final 11 games of the 2001/2002 season all ended in victory, including the quarter-final, semi-final and final of the FA Cup, and of course that famous, title-clinching 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

We carried our blistering form into the 2002/2003 season, starting with a 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Community Shield, before remaining unbeaten in our first nine league games and first three Champions League games of the season.

With our opening day victory over Birmingham City, we secured our longest winning run in top flight history, marking our 14th-straight league win.

2006/2007, 2007/2008 - 28 matches

The longest unbeaten run in our history came across our first two seasons at Emirates Stadium.

It began with the final seven games of the 2006/2007 season as we secured qualification for the final round of Champions League qualifiers, which we navigated comfortably, beating Sparta Prague 5-0 on aggregate.

We enjoyed a flying start to the domestic season as well, winning 11 and drawing four of our first 15 league games, including a 3-1 win away to Tottenham and a 5-0 rout of Derby County.

Away from the Premier League, we beat Newcastle United and Sheffield United to progress in the League Cup, and enjoyed a sensational 7-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League at Emirates Stadium.
