'They know deep down': Sean Dyche addresses Everton fans ahead of return with Nottingham Forest

Everton welcome Nottingham Forest to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

After Everton’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth earlier this week, there is a growing belief around the camp heading into the Forest clash.

The Opta supercomputer had made the Toffees heavy favourites to beat Forest, who are just one point above the relegation zone.

David Moyes’ side could move into the European spots with victory, so there’s certainly a big incentive to get the three points.

And, Everton will likely want to get one over their former manager Sean Dyche, who has just addressed Toffees supporters in his pre-match press conference.

Dyche sat down for his pre-match Everton press conference on Thursday afternoon and spoke about the reception he may get at the Hill Dickinson.

“The Toffees are a strong bunch in many ways, it may be good, bad or indifferent (the reaction he gets), but they know deep down the work that we did, I know there is plenty of them because they all came and told me,” the 54-year-old explained.

“Whatever reception I get is not really relevant, there is a lot of good people there, who work very hard, and there is still people, they know they can trust me, and I certainly trust them.

“A lot of good links made there through a very difficult period.”

Everton players have defended Dyche since he left, so clearly, he was respected in the dressing room and around Finch Farm.

“As a manager you do take the heat and the criticism, but there were so many people involved in making sure that the club going through a really messy period on and off the pitch for many different reasons, to navigate a way through it.

“The time had probably come, that is the way it goes, the players were just dwindling a little bit, the heat was on, and I thought a change of face would work, and it has done.”

Dyche then tipped his hat to Moyes for the brilliant job he’s done back on Merseyside.

“Moyesy, with his history with the club, and his know-how of the Premier League, he has done a good job, as I thought he would do, and they have spent some money, they needed to invest.”

It will be interesting to see if Dyche is booed on Saturday, but it certainly seems as though he’s keen to dampen the potential bad reception.
