Mohamed Salah's true transfer thoughts and hints dropped by the Egyptian star regarding his Liverpool future:

La Liga Admiration: Salah sparked the first major wave of speculation when he refused to commit his long-term future to Liverpool while complementing two Spanish giants. He stated in an interview with Spanish outlet AS in December 2020: "I think Madrid and Barcelona are two top clubs... We never know what is going to happen in the future."

Shifting Responsibility to the Club: Amid contract delays, Salah repeatedly and publicly placed the burden of his future on the Liverpool board in 2021. He stressed that he wanted to stay, but famously added to a Norwegian television station early that year that his fate was "in the hands of the club."

Acceptance of Leaving: Salah acknowledged the nature of modern football by saying that his time at Anfield was finite after watching Roberto Firmino depart. Reflecting on this exit in November 2024, he mused: "Everybody will leave one day."

"More Out Than In" Reality: In late 2024, Salah gave a direct assessment of another contract situation, signalling his mental preparation for an exit due to a lack of a contract offer. He admitted: "I'm probably more out than in." He then cited the approaching end of his deal.

"Far Away" Contract Stance: Contradicting positive media rumours, Salah insisted that contract negotiations were not close to being finalised as he entered the final six months of his contract. He told Sky Sports in January 2025 that the talks were "far away from that." This fuelled worries about his free agency status.

90% Chance of Departure: After eventually signing his contract extension, Salah revealed how low his confidence was in securing a new deal. He told a major UK broadcaster in May 2025 that he thought his chances of staying were only "10 per cent." He then took a slight jibe at the club's policy on players over 30.

Saudi League Confirmation: Salah confessed that a transfer to the Saudi Pro League was a very real possibility during the negotiations. Speaking on Egyptian TV in May 2025, he said that had he not renewed "there was a very big chance that I would've been in the Saudi League."

Maintaining a Saudi Dialogue: Even after penning his extension, Salah admitted that his communication with Saudi officials had not ceased. He confirmed in a May 2025 interview that his relationship with representatives there was "still good and ongoing." This leaves the door ajar for a future move.
