Being a goalkeeper is never easy – the lonliest position in football, they’re often made to be scapegoats. Today, however, we’ll be giving the men between the sticks their richly-deserved props.
We’ll be looking at the five most valuable goalkeepers in the Premier League this season, according to data from Transfermarkt.
‘Keepers from teams such as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will feature in this list – can you guess who they are?
James Trafford
James Trafford may have experienced a difficult start to life in the Premier League, but he is still only 23 years of age – his best years are still well ahead of him.
There are no issues with his ability, but his nervous energy has led him to make mistakes which have cost Manchester City goals so far this season. Of course, this timidness will fade as he gains experience.
He made a brilliant save against Brighton earlier on in the campaign and enjoyed a wonderful season at Burnley in 2024/25 – you certainly can’t write the Cumbrian off just yet.
Guglielmo Vicario
Guglielmo Vicario has been the subject of criticism at Tottenham over the last few weeks, but he remains one of the leading goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment.
He was relatively lesser-known before his arrival at Spurs – he had big shoes to fill, as he was brought in to replace long-standing shot-stopper Hugo Lloris.
Outside of a few hiccups here and there, Vicario has generally provided a strong presence between the sticks for the Lilywhites, even if he has been somewhat off the boil recently.
