Liverpool Lead Fresh Wave of Tributes on Diogo Jota’s Birthday

Liverpool shared a fresh message of support to the family of Diogo Jota on what would have been the Portugal international’s 29th birthday.

Jota tragically lost his life in a car accident in July, sending shockwaves around the world as fans of all clubs came together to mourn the passing of the universally loved Liverpool star.

Liverpool have committed to pay the full value of Jota’s contract to his family. The versatile forward had married his wife Rute just 11 days before the accident, which also claimed the life of his brother André Silva.

Keeping the memory of Jota alive on Thursday, Liverpool took to social media to write: “Today, as every day, we remember Diogo Jota on what would have been his 29th birthday.

“All of our love, thoughts and prayers continue to be with his wife Rute, his children, parents and all of his family and friends, as well as those of his brother, André.

“Forever in our hearts, forever our number 20.”

Teams from across the globe with connections to Jota also took the opportunity to join in the tributes.

Paços de Ferreira, the Portuguese outfit where Jota made his professional debut, posted a photo of the forward with the message: “We celebrate you, Jotinha.”

“Forever with us,” was the message from Portuguese giants Porto, while the national team added: “Your legacy continues to inspire us. Forever our number 21. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers remain with your family.”

Finally, there was also a message from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jota’s first team in England and the club with which he spent the most time aside from his five years on the books at Liverpool.

“Thinking of Diogo today, on the day he would have turned 29,” Wolves wrote.

“Sending our love to his family and loved ones. He will never be forgotten.”
