Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento should think twice about jumping ship next summer amid transfer interest from Manchester City.

That is the verdict of former Magpies full-back Stephen Carr who believes Livramento should look at Alexander Isak's example to realise the grass isn't always greener away from St James' Park.

Livramento has developed into one of the best right-backs in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Southampton in the summer of 2023 and he has made huge strides under the tutelage of head coach Eddie Howe.

So much so, that Manchester City are said to be monitoring the 23-year-old's progress ahead of the summer transfer window as they search for a recognised right-back.

Isak left Newcastle in the summer to join Liverpool for a British record £125million transfer fee, after effectively going on strike at St James' Park to force a move, and he has badly struggled to reproduce his form on Tyneside on Merseyside.

The Sweden international has managed just one Premier League goal so far this season and Carr feels Livramento should take heed of that when considering the next steps of his future.

"Sometimes you can move too quickly," Carr told Chronicle Live via UK casino comparison site FruitySlots.com

"Tino is loved by the fans at Newcastle, he is confident, he is playing so well, he is in the England squad, he is playing in the Champions League, so everything is set for him to progress well at Newcastle.

"I rate him highly, he is an excellent full back and has a very bright future ahead. Being managed by Eddie Howe is another advantage as he has improved since he first came into the side.

"You only have to look at Isak to see a move away to a top side may not turn out to be the best move. Isak was loved by the fans at Newcastle and now he has been on the bench at Liverpool and doesn’t look as confident as he was playing for Newcastle.

"So, for Tino, he is playing week in week out, enjoying his football, so no need to look elsewhere."

Livramento has become a regular for England under Thomas Tuchel, too, and will fancy his chances of starting at right-back for the Three Lions in next summer's World Cup.

And Carr, who played for Newcastle between 2004 and 2008, believes that has to be his aim between now and the end of the season.

"If Tino continues his current form he will definitely be in the England squad for the World Cup finals next year. He is playing in the Champions League, has been part of many squads now for England and had good exposure to the Head Coach.

"He has a great set up at Newcastle to continue to perform well and now Newcastle have turned the corner with form, I suspect he will only benefit from this. He has a good head on his shoulders, works hard and has a bright future.

"Whether he makes the first XI for the opening game is another story, but he can aim for that as being able to play on both left and right side is a big bonus for a manager."
