David Moyes has shown up each of Everton's last eight managers with impressive stat

Everton boss David Moyes saw his team beat Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday to continue the feel-good factor on Merseyside.

Everton won their third game in four Premier League outings on the south coast, recording their first-ever league win at Dorset-based outfit Bournemouth in their history, stretching all the way back to 1878.

David Moyes praised his team’s defensive efforts for seeing the win over the line, and it’s given them real impetus to try and qualify for Europe in the coming months.

And a statistic has emerged praising the Scot’s efforts, putting Sean Dyche, Frank Lampard and others to shame for their shambolic away form whilst in charge at Goodison Park.

Everton have won their most away games in a calendar year since 2008

A post by EFC Statto on X (formerly Twitter) states that Everton have won eight Premier League games away from home in the calendar year of 2025.

It marks their most in a calendar year since 2008 when Moyes was boss, excluding the 2020-21 campaign which was played behind-closed-doors – thus taking away any home advantage due to there being no home fans.

Everton won 11 of their away games in the Premier League in 2008, and they can still match that this season with wins over Chelsea, Burnley and Nottingham Forest over the rest of December.

By contrast, the Toffees only won one away game in 2024, in a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

A period from December 2023’s away win at Burnley, through to January 2025’s triumph over Brighton, saw the Toffees return home successful in just one of their 21 games.

Moyes has essentially been the closest manager to anyone for matching his own record of 11 away wins, despite a 12-year hiatus from the club, putting his eight predecessors to shame.

Everton have historically been poor away from home since David Moyes left his first spell

David Moyes originally left Everton for Manchester United in the summer of 2013 – and even though Roberto Martinez continued their away day joys the following season, it’s been a tough time away from home without Moyes at the helm.

Recording five wins apiece in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, those wins dwindled to four and three respectively in the following campaigns.

Wow, who knew Everton’s away record was so good!?👏🏻

“Since I have come back, only Arsenal have won more games than us (away). They (the fans) have been pretty happy.”

A slight pick-up in 2018-19 and 2019-20 saw Everton win five in each, and although their tally increased to an incredible 11 in 2020-21, the majority of games that season were played behind closed doors, negating any ‘home’ advantage.

Post the pandemic, it’s been a real struggle for travelling Toffees following their team up and down the nation. Just two wins apiece in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns marked their worst returns in the post-Moyes era, and although that picked up in the 2023-24 campaign under Sean Dyche, Everton are only just re-reaching the heights they did under the Scot since he left.
