Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure's 19-year-old son Yassine has joined non-League side Altrincham.

Yassine is a powerful right-sided attacker who most recently played at youth and Reserve team level for Wrexham, following earlier spells with the Celtic and Leicester academies, as he looks to emulate his father's success in the game.

The switch sees the highly rated youngster end up just down the road from his father - Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City - but he won’t be there long, with a loan move already lined up to a Northern Premier League West outfit.

Altrincham manager Neil Gibson said: 'Yassine has a lot of potential. He has a huge amount of physical prowess. He is very strong, and, in one-on-one duels, he is quick, pacey.

'There is an area of his game that needs tidying up and he needs to learn men's football, so we are looking to give him some game time with other clubs, be it loan or dual registration.

'We will work with him over the next few months to try to improve him to a point where he can compete for a first-team place.

Kolo Toure picked up Premier League medals with Arsenal and Manchester City before later winning the Scottish Premiership with Celtic in his final season before retiring in 2017

Toure Sr was appointed assistant manager to Pep Guardiola's Man City side earlier this year

'He is still only young, and he has a good pedigree in terms of his time at Wrexham. His attitude in training has been fantastic.

'He has worked really hard, and he looks like someone who, over the next six to 12 months, we could mould into a good National League footballer.'

Yassine, who shows the same drive and commitment on the pitch that his father always did, joins from the Hollywood-backed club after gaining experience of senior football with the Reserve team at Wrexham - albeit yet to make a first senior appearance.

The highly successful Toure Sr - who picked up Premier League medals with Arsenal and Manchester City before later winning the Scottish Premiership with Celtic - was appointed assistant coach to Guardiola this summer after a period spent coaching City's academy.
