The Philadelphia 76ers initially planned to play without Joel Embiid on Thursday night against the Golden State Warriors.
When the team released its injury report on Wednesday night, Embiid was ruled out for the matchup. On Thursday morning, Embiid was spotted at shootaround, and shortly after, he was upgraded on the injury report.
The Sixers didn't activate Embiid, but they put his status to questionable, leaving a 50/50 chance for him to play on Thursday night.
Joel Embiid's Official Injury Status vs Warriors
After going through a routine pregame workout, Embiid was upgraded to available on Thursday against the Warriors. He will get the nod to start.
This season started off on the right foot for Embiid. He appeared in four out of the first five games of the 2025-2026 NBA season. While he was on a minutes restriction in each of those matchups, the Sixers were able to ease their star center back into the swing of the game, which was a change of pace from last year's start.
Unfortunately, Embiid's knee concerns took a turn. After his fourth appearance of the year, Embiid would play in just two of the following 13 games. He started experiencing soreness in his knee on the opposite side of the one he had surgery on twice in under two years.
When the Sixers hosted the Atlanta Hawks on November 30, Embiid was cleared for action after initially being ruled out. He checked in for 30 minutes during the double-overtime thriller, which resulted in a Philadelphia loss.
In that matchup, Embiid went 6-14 from the field, scoring 18 points. He came down with four rebounds and dished out two assists. The Sixers fell short against the Hawks with a 142-134 loss.
When the Sixers hosted the Washington Wizards on December 2, Embiid was ruled out once again. He continues to manage his knee concerns, which seem to have him on a day-to-day timeline.
In seven games this season, Embiid has averaged just 24 minutes of playing time, marking a career low so far. He is producing 19.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
The Sixers and the Warriors will tip off at 7 PM ET on Thursday.
