Derrick White is the Celtics ‘Name to Know’ Player of the Game in Thursday’s win over Wizards

The Celtics had little trouble dispatching the Wizards in a blowout 146-101 victory Thursday on the road. The C’s scored at least 32 points in all four quarters as they beat up on what’s been a horrible Wizards defense.

Derrick White put up a season-high 30 points, making him Thursday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.

White flirted with a triple-double as he also had seven rebounds and nine assists paired with his huge scoring night. But he only needed to play 29 minutes because the Celtics were out in front by so much on the East-worst Wizards. White shot 12-for-21 from the field and converted on 5-for-12 on his 3-pointers.

It was a slow start to the season for White even if he was contributing elsewhere. The 3-point shot abandoned him as there were some frustrating nights. But he’s had some big recent performances, including a spectacular second half in the win over the Pistons last week.

It was a feel-good win for the Celtics for multiple reasons. Jordan Walsh had a career-high 22 points on 8-for-8 shooting, while rookie wing Hugo Gonzalez also had a career-high 14 points. The C’s now face the Lakers at 7 p.m. Friday as part of a back-to-back, but their starters didn’t have to play much in the blowout.

The Celtics have been hot since their 0-3 start to the season. They’re now 13-9 and have won eight of their last 10 games. The Celtics were without Jaylen Brown against the Wizards due to an illness, but that didn’t slow them down.
