LeBron James’ legendary NBA scoring streak comes to an end

LeBron James is in his 23rd NBA season, and the first big hint that age might be catching up with him is here. The King has held the longest active double-digit scoring streak in NBA history since 2007. That came to an end on Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors.

James had scored 10 or more points in every NBA appearance he’d made since 2007. For 18 years, the King didn’t score single digits in a game. However, against the Raptors, he only managed eight points. This was without Luka Doncic on the court, and it saw the streak come to an end.

There is something heartbreaking about the run coming to an end just three short of 1,300 games. But to put it into perspective, Kevin Durant, who now has the longest active streak, would have to do it for all 82 games for 12 more seasons to catch up with James.

The streak fell one month short of 18 straight years of double-digit scoring. Considering that the average NBA career length is around 4.5 years, that is a truly absurd number. James’ greatness is hard to truly understand sometimes; he is simply on a different level.

LeBron went 4-17 from the field, so it’s not like he didn’t have the chance to save his streak. The Los Angeles Lakers still won, though, as Austin Reaves scored 44 points. This does take some pressure of James, who can now focus purely on providing the perfect support for Doncic and Reaves.
