Over the past two seasons, Cesc Fabregas has emerged as one of the best young managers in Europe. The Italian media have now hinted that Manchester City could be his future destination.
Corriere della Sera take a close look at the Como manager, with the lakeside club currently at fifth in Serie A. They take on Inter Milan next, with the Nerazzurri having attempted to land him in the summer.
A meeting was held with the Milan side but it was merely exploratory.
They claim that Bayer Leverkusen also came forward after losing Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid. Talks never reached an advanced stage, as AS Roma’s interest also never materalised into a formal move.
Now, there is belief that Fabregas will not manage another club in Italy. The newspaper claim that it will only be ‘Barcelona or Manchester City’ for the ex-Arsenal player.
The 38-year-old is hailed as a ‘snake charmer’ whose footballing ideas mirror that of Pep Guardiola. As a result of that, Como have gone from being a newly promoted side to being European contenders.
As of now, a move to Manchester City will have to wait. Guardiola’s contract expires in 2027 and it is difficult to see him depart before that.
By then, Fabregas would’ve grown further and other clubs will come forward for him. Considering how the former midfielder’s system draws inspiration from the Citizens manager, it is easy to see why the move could be possible. There are too many factors to consider right now before it actually happens.
