Chelsea Are‘Working On A Deal’To Sign‘Highly Rated’Attacking Midfielder Ahead Of Man City And United

Chelsea are currently the favourites to sign SF Cascades attacking midfielder Muhammad Zongo, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that the 16-year-old attracted the attention of the Blues following his performances for Burkina Faso at the Under-17 World Cup, and they are “working on a deal” to secure the “highly rated” youngster’s signature.

Zongo was a standout performer in the tournament, having scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in 3 group stage games. He then scored the crucial winner against Germany in the round of 32 before creating another goal in the last 16 clash versus Uganda.

His country was knocked out by Italy in the quarter-final, but they were unlucky to be on the losing side.

Zongo had rattled the frame of the goal on two occasions before Thomas Campaniello scored a late winner for Burkina Faso’s opponents.

What do fans need to know about Zongo?

The teenager generally prefers to play as a no.10, but he has been deployed on the right wing, where he is prone to cutting inside onto his stronger left foot.

Zongo is not afraid of putting in a tackle or two, winning the ball in deep-lying positions before using his athleticism to get his team into the final third, where he can use his technical ability to create chances fo others or score himself.

Chelsea do have competition for the player

It is believed that both Manchester City and Manchester United have also been keeping tabs on Zongo’s progress, but Chelsea are said to be ahead of their Premier League rivals as well as other teams in negotiations.

La Liga side Villarreal and Belgian club Anderlecht have been credited with an interest as well, but it looks like he could make the move to Stamford Bridge when he turns 18.
