Rodri and Mateo Kovacic are the only absentees for City as high-flying Sunderland visit The Etihad

The Black Cats have been a revelation on their return to the Premier League, and manager Pep Guardiola is aware of the threat posed to his side.

“All I can say from my opinion is that they deserve to be where they are,” he said at Friday's press conference.

“When you are promoted and you play well for five games, okay momentum. It can happen.

“But for 14 fixtures in the Premier League with the opponents like everyone suffers to take results in that position they deserve.

“They do it well otherwise they won’t be where they are. Good challenge for us.”

City won their last home game against Sunderland 2-1, with an own goal and Sergio Aguero scoring for the Blues, back in 2016. Overall City have won 70 of the 146 games played against the Black Cats, with 26 draws and 50 defeats.

Predicted line-up: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O'Reilly, Gonzalez, Silva, Foden, Cherki, Doku, Haaland

Score prediction: City 2 Sunderland 1
