Played for Both – Everton V Nottingham Forest

Ahead of tomorrow’s game against Nottingham Forest, we reflect on some players who’ve featured for both teams.

5 – Apostolos Vellios

Vellios played just 22 league games for the Blues, scoring three goals. However, that doesn’t quite tell the full story. Those three goals came inside 235 minutes on the pitch, averaging a goal every 78 minutes.

The Greek striker was then subsequently dropped and was rarely seen in an Everton shirt again. Perhaps best remembered for an overhead kick assist for Nikica Jelevic’s winner against Spurs.

4 – Paul Gerrard

The first goalkeeper I remember seeing as Everton’s number 1. I just about caught the end of Southall, but can’t really remember it.

We’ve had some top keepers over the years, but sadly Gerrard was not among them.

Perhaps best remembered as being injured while Di Canio caught the ball against West Ham in 2000.

3 – Richard Gough

Joining the Blues aged 37, Gough spent two years at Goodison Park towards the end of his career.

Despite his advanced years, the Scot was immense at the back. His experience and leadership earned him the captaincy in his second season at the club.

2 – James Garner

Garner has blossomed under David Moyes this season. The 24-year-old has been excellent in several positions and has begun to fulfil his clear potential.

While he may become a victim of his versatility, if he can get a run of games in midfield, there’s a very composed and accomplished player there.

A contender for Player of the Season thus far.

1 – Kevin Campbell.

My first Everton hero. Named my first pet after him – a goldfish called Super Kev. What a player and what a man.

Truly a modern giant of the club. There’s no doubt we wouldn’t be in the Premier League if not for his heroics.

If we had a finisher half as good as Campbell upfront now that’d be sound.
