Giannis Antetokounmpo’s potential domino effect on Bucks’ future revealed

Giannis Antetokounmpo could finally be on his way out of the Milwaukee Bucks after Shams Charania reported the player, his agent and the team were discussing his future and whether staying would be the best option for the two-time NBA MVP.

As soon as the report saw the light, fans and analysts started speculating about what would happen with the Greek player. The New York Knicks were mentioned as a potential landing spot for Antetokounmpo, who reportedly has interest in joining them.

Meanwhile, he has yet to officially request a trade, but it seems like the Bucks are preparing for the moment he leaves the franchise. According to insider Jake Fischer, a potential Antetokounmpo exit would prompt the Bucks to part ways with several other veterans.

“That could mean several different outcomes,” Fischer wrote on Marc Stein’s “The Stein Line.” “Outcomes that the Bucks are indeed projected by rival front offices to be actively pondering in coming weeks. Some teams out there think the post-Giannis Bucks would want to initiate a full-scale teardown that includes trading away veterans like the title-winning Bobby Portis, February acquisition Kyle Kuzma and offseason addition Myles Turner. Even then, though, there would be loud questions.”

Milwaukee is 10-13 after beating the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. Antetokounmpo only played three minutes during that game before he suffered a calf injury. The 2021 NBA champions’ concerns with the team reportedly stem from Damian Lillard’s release and the roster construction.

Milwaukee has struggled mightily without Antetokounmpo on the court, which has rubbed him the wrong way. Besides the Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Antetokounmpo, but this appears to be only the beginning of a new saga.
