‘Many clubs have been doing it for years’ – Mikel Arteta says signing Quintero twins could be a sign of things to come…

**Mikel Arteta has spoken of his excitement about Arsenal’s signing of Ecuadorian twins Edwin and Holger Quintero, and the potential for a new transfer strategy at the club.**

The Gunners have agreed deals to sign the 16-year-old brothers, who will officially join the club in 2027 from Independiente del Valle.

Chelsea are among the clubs to have successfully agreed deals for youngsters in advance, letting them develop at their clubs before heading to the Premier League, including Estevao.

And Arteta says it is something Arsenal are looking to do more of.

“Well, that is certainly something that I think is very positive,” Arteta said on the double signing.

“I mean, we can recruit the best talent that is out there. Obviously, the rules and the limitation that the league provides in relation to using them before a certain age, it is a challenge. But we saw that as a good opportunity for us and we are ahead. I think that’s something very positive.”

Arteta says looking further afield for youngsters is something that has long been discussed.

“I think for many years we have talked about that,” he continued. “The last week they (journalists) were asking me about the multi-club possibilities as well. So, it’s something that is emerging there.

“For many clubs, they’ve been doing it for years, which is, in my opinion, a big advantage if you do it correctly. And we need to start somewhere and that’s what we did.

“For me the first intention obviously has to be to develop our own players in-house. But that doesn’t mean that you have to close any doors for any talent that we have. That goes for players and it goes as well to staff, I think.”
