James Copley reacts as Sunderland draw 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield
Jill Scott, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Gary Neville shared score predictions for Manchester City vs Sunderland in a lively Overlap chat
There was light-hearted chaos on The Overlap as the panel tried to agree on score predictions for Manchester City vs Sunderland, with former Lioness Jill Scott visibly torn between head and heart.
As the group moved down the fixture list, Scott paused, shaking her head. "I can't do this," she said, prompting Ian Wright to push, "City Sunderland." Gary Neville chipped in, smiling, "You're conflicted, Jill." Scott repeated herself, "I can't do it." The host reminded everyone, "Saturday, 3pm," and the predictions began to fly. Wright went first with a wild call. "6-5, City." Roy Keane immediately countered with a far more grounded score.
"3-1, City." Scott stared back at him. "Roy?!" she laughed, turning back to Wright. "6-5?!?!" The former Arsenal striker doubled down, "You know something, please make it 6-5. Please make it 6-5." Keane warned her not to come after him if Sunderland did something memorable. "Don't be texting me, Saturday now," he joked. Scott fired back with a grin of her own. "I'll get the whole of Sunderland too."
Wright argued that Sunderland would approach the game positively. "Sunderland would be going for that game because they've got nothing to lose there." Neville, less romantic about it, kept his reasoning simple. "City will win." Scott pushed back slightly. "Sunderland won't concede three." Wright looked surprised. "You don't think?" Keane responded, "They conceded two against Bournemouth the other day at home."

Wright then pointed to form and quality in the City side. "I think so. We're dealing with... Foden's in great form. Your man Foden." Scott agreed, "He's doing well. He looks strong. Do you not think he looks strong?" When asked to commit, Neville and Jamie Carragher both settled on Manchester City 3-0 Sunderland, while Keane, Scott and Wright landed on the same score between them, predicting Manchester City 3-1 Sunderland.
Man City dealt injury blow ahead of game
Manchester City have been dealt a big blow ahead of the Sunderland clash at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon with Rodri ruled out.
The news is a welcome boost for Regis Le Bris’ side, who will look to build on the excellent point secured away at Anfield on Wednesday night. For City though, they will have to take on an in-form Sunderland side without their 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, who is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in October. That followed his comeback from a long-term knee injury.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, City boss Guardiola - when asked if Rodri was fit - said: “No. He’s getting better. He’s getting better. I don’t know how long [until he’s back] but he will be ready.” The City boss has also heaped praise on Sunderland and described the Black Cats as a ‘good challenge’ for his title-chasing side.
