Enzo Maresca has given his reaction to Chelsea’s poor performance, which ultimately saw the Blues lose 3-1 at Elland Road.
Goals from Jaka Bijol and Ao Tanaka gave Leeds a 2-0 lead at half-time. Chelsea pulled a goal back when Pedro Neto fired the ball into the roof of the net from a close angle, but a mistake from Tosin allowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to seal a much-needed win for the home side in their fight against relegation.
Maresca gave a review of the performance during his pre-match press conference for the Bournemouth match and spoke about why he was surprised by his side's performance.
The defeat saw Chelsea drop to fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Arsenal.
Full focus on Bournemouth rather than reviewing Leeds
“Since the end of the game, I have not seen the players because we came back from Leeds yesterday afternoon, and I will see the players in a while.
“We are only going to have time to focus on tomorrow’s game because in less than 24 hours, we have another game.”
“I watched the game back, we did many bad things.
“We paid the price for playing one hour with ten men against Arsenal.
“In some ways, Leeds away can also be more complicated than the previous games that we have played.
"There are things that we need to try and avoid in the future.
Maresca was surprised by the performance.
“I was very surprised by the performance, no doubt. I expect more in general, but also when we prepare the game, we analyse the small details.
“We were aware of the Arsenal game to play with 10 men for one hour, making some rotations because we needed to protect players.
“We were expecting that some moments, we were going to struggle, but not for the entire game.”
