Enzo Maresca Issues Direct Response To Criticism From Chelsea Legend John Terry

**Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was diplomatic when replying to claims made by club legend John Terry that he is rotating the team too often.**

Terry suggested that the Blues head coach should stick to a group of “13 or 14” senior players for his team selection, but Maresca raised questions about the practicalities, pointing out the number of matches the team have to play:

“Now I don’t know if the solution is to have 12 or 14 players and the rest just play some minutes.”

“But we are trying to understand. Now, if today you play every three days, two days like now with the same XI, I don’t know.”

Chelsea have too many injury-prone players

------------------------------------------

The main issue with Terry’s argument is that it assumes “13 or 14” players can play games two to three times a week.

We know for certain that captain Reece James and Wesley Fofana – two key members of the first-team squad – are not in a position to do that due to their past fitness records.

There are also question marks about Enzo Fernandez, who has been carrying a chronic knee injury since the September international break.

Maresca can still change his rotation policy

--------------------------------------------

Terry does have a point in one key respect, though – not every position needs to be rotated as often. The backline, in particular, should be a lot more stable than it has been.

Was there really a need to keep Malo Gusto on the bench [**against Leeds**](https://chelseanews.com/blog/chelsea-player-ratings-leeds/) and move Trevoh Chalobah out of position to right-back?

Maresca hasn’t helped himself at times. Fans will be hoping that he has, at the very least, learned from the mistakes that were made at Elland Road, and it leads to him being slightly more consistent with his team selection going forward.
