Club talking to Chelsea outcast ‘for several days’ – January transfer desperately needed

Lyon are in talks with Chelsea defender Axel Disasi about a move in the January transfer window.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the French side have been speaking to the Chelsea defender ‘for several days’.

The newspaper explains that Lyon are looking for a central defender to compensate for the departures of two players during the Africa Cup of Nations.

They’re due to lose Clinton Mata and Moussa Niakhaté, their central defensive duo, during the competition and need a replacement.

Thus, they’re already planning ahead and their management have already contacted the Chelsea defender about a move. He’s one of multiple options being looked at.

But contacts have been held with the Chelsea man ‘for several days’ ahead of January. There is a belief that he can be secured on loan as he’s currently been ‘sidelined’ at Stamford Bridge.

The big problem for them, though, is that he has more attractive options, perhaps on a permanent transfer as well. There is also a debate about whether the move would make sense.

Manager Paulo Fonseca needs players who can perform immediately. Disasi wouldn’t fall into that bracket given his lack of minutes for Chelsea this season. That’s a deliberation to be made, but contacts are underway regardless.
