Manchester United have added Marcus Rashford to the legends section of their official website as the forward continues to impress on loan at Barcelona. Rashford joined the United academy at the age of seven having being born and raised in the city.

The 28-year-old made his senior debut in 2016 during a Europa League tie against Midtjylland, scoring twice and becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer in European competition at the time.

Over the next 10 seasons, Rashford developed into a fan favourite at Old Trafford and one of the Premier League’s standout attackers. His 2022/23 campaign was his most prolific, finishing with 30 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

However, the forward’s relationship with United has deteriorated significantly since Ruben Amorim arrived as manager last November.

The Portuguese coach did not view Rashford as part of his long-term plans, but the club have still chosen to honour his legacy.

United have now placed their academy graduate in the legends section of the website, joining a prestigious list of some of the greatest names in the club’s history.

Rashford now sits alongside icons such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Roy Keane, Bryan Robson, Wayne Rooney, Denis Irwin and many other Old Trafford greats.

He is one of only four players on the list who are still active, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea. Fernandes is the only one still playing for the club.

Although Rashford remains a United player, his future lies in Barcelona’s hands as they weigh up a permanent deal for the England international.

Barca hold a buy option worth around £26m, but despite Rashford’s strong performances, there are internal doubts over whether a full transfer would be financially feasible.

The Spanish side are covering his full wages after Rashford agreed to take a 25 per cent pay cut, still earning around £240,000 per week and ranking among Barcelona’s top earners.

Despite being one of the world’s biggest clubs, Barca’s financial issues in recent years remain a major obstacle, and committing to another high-wage signing may be a risk they avoid.

However, manager Hansi Flick has openly praised the United loanee. Earlier this season he said: "I told Deco this summer: ‘Please get me a player like Marcus Rashford...! Please!

“I’m very happy to have him here. Rashford was an opportunity in the transfer market and we had to take it. I’m glad we did.

“I spoke to him and said: ‘I need you in my team.’ This is a good step for Rashford. It will give him a lot of confidence."
