Everton team news for Nottingham Forest confirmed as David Moyes handed major boost

David Moyes after Everton's win over Bournemouth

Michael Keane has fought back from injury to return to the starting line-up. The centre back played through injury in the defeat to Newcastle United last week but was forced to miss the midweek win at Bournemouth.

said he was unsure whether the centre back was in a position to return for the visit of Nottingham Forest when he spoke to the media on Friday. But the defender has been deemed fit and is the only change on Saturday afternoon.

Keane replaces the suspended Tim Iroegbunam and his return is significant because it gives Moyes an opportunity to stretch his thin squad across his tactical plan as Idrissa Gueye serves the final game of his three-match ban.

It means Jake O’Brien, excellent in the middle at the Vitality Stadium, will move to right back – where he has spent most of Moyes’ second stint.

That allows James Garner, the only fit and available specialist central midfielder, to fill his preferred position. He will sit alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with Carlos Alcaraz retaining his starting place after he picked up an assist against the Cherries.

Starting line-up: Pickford; Mykolenko, Keane, Tarkowski, O’Brien; Garner; Dewsbury-Hall; Grealish, Alcaraz, Ndiaye, Barry
