**Arsenal Women defeated Liverpool 2-1 in front of nearly 35,000 fans at the Emirates Stadium, moving up to third in the Barclays WSL table.**
Lotte Wubbe-Moy couldn’t quite direct her header inside the post, but Olivia Smith escaped the attention of three players before beating Liverpool goalkeeper Faye Kirby from 25 yards.
Liverpool drew level on the half-hour mark, with Mia Enderby playing in Beata Olsson to tuck the ball into the corner past Gunners’ debutant keeper Anneke Borbe.
Alessia Russo missed a good chance soon after the break and then forced Kirby into two smart saves, including a push around the post.
Caitlin Foord shot high and wide with the visitors’ goal gaping, Katie McCabe rifled a volley just over the crossbar.
Gemma Evans made a brilliant recovery to pull off a superb block just as Stina Blackstenius looked set to score for Arsenal.
But in the 87th minute, Blackstenius found the net with a shot on the turn from the edge of the box.
