Nottingham Forest fell to defeat against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A first-half own goal and Thierno Barry’s first strike for the Toffees gave the home side a two-goal advantage at the break, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall rounded off the scoring with 10 minutes remaining.

Forest are next in action on Thursday when the Reds travel to take on Utrecht in the Europa League.

Sean Dyche named an unchanged squad from the one that beat Wolves 1-0 away from home in midweek, as the Reds searched for three away wins on the bounce in the Premier League.

But inside just two minutes, the Reds were dealt an early blow.

After Nicolò Savona was booked for a foul on Jack Grealish, Everton kept the resulting free-kick alive as Dewsbury-Hall cut inside and saw his shot diverted into the Forest net off Nikola Milenković for 1-0.

Forest looked to ignite a quick response, with Igor Jesus heading just wide at the far post from Savona’s cross on six minutes.

As the half went on, Forest continued to push for an equaliser, taking up dangerous positions deep in the Everton half without really testing Jordan Pickford.

On the stroke of half-time, a neat exchange between Neco Williams and Elliot Anderson resulted in the latter getting a shot away from close range, but Pickford got down low to his right to palm the ball away.

Moments later, an Everton counter-attack saw the hosts break three-on-one, with Iliman Ndiaye releasing Thierno Barry, who slotted beyond Matz Sels for 2-0.

Dyche made three changes at the break, one of which saw Zach Abbott make his Premier League debut as he replaced Savona at right-back. The other two changes saw Dan Ndoye and Ibrahim Sangaré make way for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ryan Yates respectively.

There were chances for both sides inside the first 10 minutes of the second half, with Jesus’ header comfortably saved by Pickford. Down the other end, Jack Grealish’s cutback found James Garner, whose shot was saved by Sels.

Yates picked up a knock on the hour and had to be replaced by Nicolás Domínguez, who came close to pulling a goal back for Forest just five minutes later. Hudson-Odoi’s cross was punched away by Pickford only as far as the Argentine, whose goal-bound attempt was somehow blocked by Tarkowski.

Dewsbury-Hall almost added his second when his fierce effort clipped the outside of the post on its way out for a goal-kick, before Ndiaye was superbly denied by Sels moments later.

Everton did have their third on 80 minutes when Dewsbury-Hall slotted the ball into the net.

Forest are next in action on Thursday with a trip to FC Utrecht in the Europa League.
