“Looks bad…” – Enzo Maresca’s injury update on attacker is terrible news for Chelsea

Enzo Maresca is taking his post match press conference after Chelsea’s dreary draw with Bournemouth.

Before getting onto the meat and potatoes of the discussion about the result, Maresca was asked for an update on his striker Liam Delap. The forward went off with what looked like a dislocated shoulder after a heavy fall at a corner.

“Bad” update from Maresca makes weeks or months out look likely

We feared the worst, and Maresca’s update pretty much confirmed that:

“Unfortunately he will be out again – we don’t know how long,” Maresca said.

“But his shoulder looks quite bad. He has been unlucky, he has been out two months already and needs to be out again.”

Cole Palmer made his return today, meaning another attacking option added. But even with Delap in the group we look short up top. Without him, potentially for a few months, we will really be stretched. Marc Guiu came on as a second half sub today, and w can expect to see him a lot more in the next weeks and months while Delap recovers.

What a bleak day all around! Decembers are always like this for Chelsea, but we thought this one might be a little more hopeful. How wrong we were. Maresca’s comments about the lack of attacking threat say it all:

“I think a lack of quality in the last third cost us. Some moments, we know we are not going to score every game, now we are going to try and score on Tuesday. It was important to keep the clean sheet.”

In other news…

Alejandro Garnacho wasn’t spectacular, but the standard were so low out there that his mid performance was the best we got from the Vitality Stadium.

Robert Sanchez was our best player in the game, and he said afterwards he thought the team had played well. We’re not sure about that.
