Nathan Jones’ side faced Pompey in a 12:30 pm kick off at The Valley but the fixture was abandoned after attention was drawn to a situation in The Covered End after 12 minutes. Players initially waited on the pitch before returning to dressing rooms and seeing the game cancelled. In a statement this afternoon, Charlton Athletic confirmed that the supporter had passed away in hospital.
The match between Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth had been the highest attended game between the two sides at The Valley in nearly 20 years. The fixture will be rearranged for later in this season.
