Fatigue may have played a part, sure, and both of these players will have reason to be feeling burned out right now. But if Chelsea are to still be there or there abouts come the end of the season, they need these important players to not have many more of these off days.
Marc Cucurella has been superb for the last two seasons straight now and has become one of Chelsea’s most important and influential players. But yesterday he had a bit of a stinker.
Cucurella’s stats
He had 69 touches of the ball, so he was constantly involved, but lost it 17 times.
Out of possession, he only won 50% of his duels.

The other player who had a very poor showing was Enzo Fernandez, who was without his midfield partner Moises Caicedo through suspension. And he was very lost without him, not being able to cover for the tackling abilities and defensive stability that Caicedo brings.
Fernandez’ game
The stats from Fernandez’s performance reflect how tough of an afternoon it was for him defensively. He only managed to win five out of 11 duels, as per Sofascore, committed two fouls and failed to win his only tackle.
Off the ball yesterday, Fernandez can only be described as a bit of a traffic cone. He was by-passed too easily and offered nothing at all in terms of cover ahead of his defensive line. It was a tough afternoon for both Cururella and Fernandez, and one they will both want to forget and move on from now.
