The lowdown on the latest Premier League transfer rumours - including updates from Newcastle United, Man City and Leeds United

The countdown to the January transfer window is well and truly underway - and the rumour mill is close to reaching boiling point in the Premier League. We start this weekend’s roundup with an update from Elland Road where Leeds United are fighting for their lives to secure their status as a Premier League club.

The Whites signed both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha to equip themselves with enough attacking options to compete in the top-flight, but could enter the market again to sign a third striker option in January.

According to Fichajes, Daniel Farke’s side are eyeing up a move for 46-time Mexican international Santiago Gimenez. The 24-year-old is believed to be unsettled at the San Siro and is keen to join a club where he’ll play regularly in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup, which is to be played on home soil.

Santiago Gimenez to Leeds United latest

Leeds United have emerged as serious contenders to sign Gimenez, according to reports in Spain. Gimenez is also being monitored by the likes of Fulham, West Ham and Sunderland but it’s thought that Leeds’ proposal is the most concrete at this stage. The striker is under contract at the San Siro until 2029 after signing for the club in the summer of 2024 for a figure in the region of £28m.

The 3AM verdict: Both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha have done a solid job at Leeds with seven goals between them in the Premier League. However, the pair both have fairly poor fitness records despite staying relatively injury free this season. Leeds are a club which could benefit from another striker so perhaps a loan with an option to buy could be a good move for the Whites.

Gimenez has so far struggled at AC Milan, scoring just seven in 30 matches across all competitions. But it’s worth noting he scored 65 in 105 throughout his time at Feyenoord, including 26 across all competitions in his final season while playing under Arne Slot. He’ll have a point to prove in the run-up to the World Cup and could be a smart addition.

Newcastle United push to seal ‘agreement’ with £40m star

Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson has opened contract talks with Tino Livramento as he looks to secure the long-term services of the England international. This news comes amid rumours linking the talented right-back with a blockbuster move to Manchester City in a deal which could involve James Trafford going in the opposite direction.

The Magpies see Livramento as a key part of their future and are believed to be prioritising contract talks with the right-back along with central defender Sven Botman, according to Newcastle World.

Speaking about his future earlier this season, Livramento said: “That's nothing that I'm in control of. I leave that to my dad, to my agent. For me, I've been out for seven weeks. I've been working really hard to come back and obviously help the team.

“I'm very happy with how I've played (against Man City). That's my focus, staying where I'm at now. That's always been my focus. Helping the team as much as I can.”

Livramento also paid tribute to the Toon faithful when asked if he is happy at St James’ Park. He responded: “Of course, have you not seen it out there?”

The 3AM verdict: After reluctantly losing Alexander Isak to Liverpool over the summer, the Magpies could make a real statement of intent by tying Livramento down to a new and improved deal, stretching beyond the summer of 2028. Livramento’s return to fitness has coincided with a real upturn in fortunes after a challenging run of results, and sums up why he’s regarded as one of the best in the division at right-back.

Extending Livramento’s contract would definitely mark a strong start for new sporting director Ross Wilson, and it’d mark a real dent in Man City’s prospects of signing the 23-year-old.
