The 'Pupil Of Guardiola' Who Is Being Backed As A Future Man City Manager

Como head coach Cesc Fabregas is destined to manage either Manchester City or Barcelona when he leaves Serie A, according to reports in Italy.

Newspaper Il Messaggero claim that the former Arsenal and Chelsea has made a name for himself at Como but he is not expected to stay and manage another team in the same country.

Fabregas has worked under several high-profile managers, including Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

However, Il Messaggero have described him as a “pupil of Guardiola”, who managed him for twelve months at Barca during the 2011/12 campaign.

Guardiola left at the end of Fabregas’s first year at the Camp Nou, but he has adopted some of his philosophies in management.

When could Guardiola leave Man City?

The 54-year-old signed a new contract back in November 2024, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.

There are no indications at this stage that Guardiola will leave before that date, although the Catalan has made it clear over the past year or so that he is getting nearer to the end of his tenure at the club.

Fabregas is by no means the only candidate

Many regard Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany as the logical choice to replace Guardiola as and when the manager position becomes vacant.

Bayern legend Uli Hoeness has even claimed that Guardiola has predicted Kompany would succeed him in the dugout. The Belgian himself refused to discuss those remarks when he was asked about them last week.

As a club icon, Kompany would certainly be in the frame, but Fabregas’s style of football and his experience in the Premier League as a player mean he would have a genuine case for being in the running for the job too.
