This latest round of Fantasy Premier League may have caught a few off-guard – it isn’t often that we get a Premier League gameweek in the middle of the week!
It was a positive period for teams such as Leeds United, Arsenal and Aston Villa – who were the highest scoring players in FPL?
Goalkeepers
Jordan Pickford, after being last week’s biggest loser between the sticks, is this week’s biggest winner. The former Sunderland man put in a phenomenal display, making some brilliant saves to preserve Everton’s clean sheet against Bournemouth.
He, along with Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson, scored seven points during gameweek 14. Thomas Tuchel certainly has a headache on his hands ahead of the World Cup.
Fulham’s Bernd Leno wasn’t quite as successful – after conceding five goals against Manchester City, he was sent home with a points total of zero.
Defenders
Cristian Romero wasn’t the highest-scoring defender in gameweek 14 for his defensive efforts – instead, his mammoth 17 points total came through his goalscoring exploits. He showed Tottenham’s forwards how it’s done, capping off his performance with a goal from an overhead kick.
Elsewhere, Diogo Dalot also picked up a solid total of 15 points after he scored Manchester United’s only goal of the game in a 1-1 draw with West Ham United.
It was an evening to forget for Pau Torres, though. While Aston Villa picked up a win over Brighton, they still conceded three goals – one of which was a Pau own goal. As such, he was slapped with a total of -1 points.
Midfielders
Phil Foden’s wonderful form continued on Tuesday evening, as he gave Fulham’s defenders a torrid evening and bagged himself a brace. Overall, the England international scored 17 points in gameweek 14.
Mikel Merino gave FPL owners plenty to think about once again – he racked up a brilliant points total of 13, despite being selected by just 2.4% of FPL players at the time of writing.
While we’re reluctant to pile on such a young player, we have to name Estevao as this week’s biggest loser in midfield, as he played just 45 minutes against Leeds United and picked up a booking, giving him a score of zero.
Forwards
We’re almost getting sick of the sight of Erling Haaland – but not enough to overlook him. He scored a goal and registered two assists against Fulham on Tuesday evening in the midst of a 5-4 thriller at Craven Cottage.
Ollie Watkins also finally found his goalscoring boots again, as he scored twice against Brighton to give the Aston Villa a much-needed win on the road. After a shaky start to the campaign, Villa are up and running once again.
We’ve singled out two strikers for the dubious honour of being our joint-biggest loser in terms of forwards. The first is Viktor Gyokeres, with the second being Hugo Ekitike. Both are very expensive at £8.8 and £8.4 respectively and neither of them were able to make an impact – they each scored just a single point over the course of gameweek 14.
