Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe could look to bring in some new signings when the January transfer window opens up for business next month
Newcastle United are currently juggling Premier League football with their Champions League duties. Eddie Howe has the opportunity to bring in some new faces when the January transfer window opens up for business. The Toon Army delved into the summer market to land the likes of Nick Woltemade, Jack Ramsey and Anthony Elanga, among others.
They also have the chance to let some players leave this winter. Cutting ties with some individuals would help free up space and funds in their ranks. That would help pave the way for potential reinforcements next month.
Newcastle United could face battle to keep Tino Livramento
Newcastle United could face a battle to keep hold of right-back Tino Livramento amid attention from elsewhere. According to Football Insider, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City want to sign him. He is under contract until June 2028.
Livramento, 23, is an England international with three caps under his belt. The Toon Army signed him back in 2023 for an initial £32million and he has since made 93 appearances in all competitions, 13 of which have come this season, and he has chipped in with one goal from the back. It would be a blow to lose him down the line, especially to a team in the same league.
The defender was on the books at Chelsea as a youngster. He then left Stamford Bridge for more first-team opportunities at Southampton. The Londoner broke into the Saints’ senior team in the top flight before Newcastle managed to lure him to the North East and he hasn’t looked back since.
Newcastle United should target Brentford’s Michael Kayode
If Newcastle sell Livramento, they should target Michael Kayode at Brentford as his replacement. At the age of 21, he has a bright future in the game and will develop further over the coming years. He has proved to be a real handful down the right flank of defence for the Bees in this campaign and he has flourished under the guidance of Keith Andrews.
Kayode, who is an Italy youth international, joined his current team on an initial loan deal just over 12 months ago. He arrived in England as a bit of an unknown quantity but has proved his worth at the Gtech Community Stadium. The pacey full-back has played 24 matches so far altogether and will surely have bigger teams sniffing around him already soon.
The Italian played for Juventus and Gozanno before linking up with Fiorentina as a teenager. He subsequently rose up through the academy of the Serie A outfit and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He then went on to feature on 49 occasions for the Florence club before heading out the exit door when Brentford landed him.
Kayode is a powerful player who loves to get involved in attacks. He has adapted well to life with the Bees and has become one of their most prized assets under Andrews. In addition, he possesses a long throw which is a useful weapon to have. His manager said last month: "I think Michael Kayode has been nothing short of a sensation for us. And I think everybody, some people forget the age some of these players are.”
