Everton boss David Moyes could look to freshen up his squad in the January transfer window next month ahead of the second half of the Premier League season

Everton have the opportunity to bolster their squad in the January transfer window. The Toffees could do with adding some more firepower to their ranks ahead of the second half of the season. They also have the chance to let some players head out the exit door as well next month to free up space and funds.

The Merseyside outfit moved into the Hill Dickinson Stadium for this campaign. They delved into the market over the summer to bring in the likes of Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry, among others, to freshen things up. David Moyes re-joined them during last term after he was picked as Sean Dyche’s replacement.

Everton should take gamble on Vedat Muriqi

Everton need more quality at the top end of the pitch and that is an area that requires strengthening this winter. They must bring in another option up top to battle it out with Barry and Beto. With that in mind, they should look no further than RCD Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi.

Premier League teams tend to steer clear of players over the age of 30 these days. However, at the age of 31, the attacker is in the form of his life and has many years of experience behind him. The Kosovo international, who has 66 caps to his name, stands at 6ft 4inc and would give the Toffees something different to call upon in games and a plan B.

Muriqi, who was born in Prizren, has scored 42 goals in 132 games for Mallorca, eight of which have come this season. Only Kylian Mbappe has found the net more than him in La Liga in this campaign and he is a real hidden gem. He has proved himself in Spain and now should test himself in England. The player has also scored against Real Madrid in four consecutive years in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Why Vedat Muriqi is worth a punt for Everton in January

If Everton took a gamble on Muriqi, he would give them more competition and depth in their attacking department. He would give Moyes a focal point and he has been a real handful over the past few years. He is under contract at Mallorca until June 2029 meaning they are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can wait for the right money.

Muriqi had three successful spells in Turkey at Giresunspor, Gençlerbirliği and Çaykur Rizespor before Super Lig giants Fenerbahce swooped in for his services in 2019. He was prolific during his 12 months in Istanbul and fired 17 goals to earn a transfer to Serie A with Lazio. He struggled to hit the ground running in Italy but has since found his shooting boots again at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

He is now living in Palma in the Balearic Islands and he make take some persuading to leave the sunny shores for the rainy North West of England. However, Everton would probably be able to offer him a better financial deal and a new challenge to sink his teeth into. They can’t just rely on Barry and Beto and must improve that area of the pitch if they can.

Spanish news outlet Marca had this to say about Muriqi back in August: “Every time Vedat Muriqi faces Real Madrid, it's a colossal battle with the white-clad center-backs. His powerful aerial game is a constant challenge for any opponent. He does everything a striker of his size should do to make the center-backs realize that going to the dentist is a much more peaceful experience.”
