Liverpool are still looking to spend money in strengthening the attack and this is who they should add to the shopping list.
Before the summer transfer window even opened it seemed inevitable that Liverpool would sign Alexander Isak, even if it took months, rather than weeks to get the job done.
Liverpool look to strengthen winger options
The same could have been said about Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Isak though, but none of them have really shown anything like what they are capable of or why Liverpool invested nearly £200m to sign the trio. It is an assessment that can be applied to another winger who has been mentioned as a possible target, Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye. Valued in the region of £70m, it is a move that would ruffle a few feathers on Merseyside, but should Liverpool play it safe, or look further afield?
At the older end of the scale, Serge Gnabry has Premier League experience, has won multiple trophies and has been one of Europe’s most consistent wingers over the last decade. With a goal nearly every two games for Germany at international level, he has exactly the sort of pedigree that Arne Slot needs. He is also out of contract at the end of the season and could be a transfer budget saving bargain.
Big money banker and breakthrough prodigy
He wouldn’t be free, but another elite option is a player who has been linked to Liverpool on several occasions and who doesn’t seem to be for long in La Liga. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has won multiple Champions League trophies and was a key figure in Los Blancos starting XI until Kylian Mbappe was signed and the Brazil international became more of a peripheral figure. Game time has been equally as hard to come by under Xabi Alonso and the former Liverpool midfielder might be willing to do his old club a favour.
A player who Alonso could probably do with now never made the grade at the Bernabeu, however, Nico Paz is flying at his first senior club at Serie A’s Como under the watchful gaze of Cesc Fabregas. With five goals and five assists in 13 appearances, he is one of Italian football’s star performers this season and the big clubs are already starting to circle. The 21-year old has been capped by Argentina and could be about to emerge as his country’s new hero as Lionel Messi gets set to bid farewell on the world stage.
Shopping in the Premier League isn’t always a sure thing, but players with proven quality always come good, with Florian Wirtz already starting to prove the doubters wrong.
